Retro: 2006 End of Year Review

2026 Intro: "Last post of 2006"? I don't remember writing for any website, or a personal blog, in 2006. So I really don't know what's going on here. But I do have to say some things. First off, I'm ashamed of the way I thought back in those days. I didn't believe in illegal immigration. I'm not saying I'm not against it now, but back then, I had an extreme stance. And a racist one. I worked in a gas station, and illegals were a big part of the customer base. Most of them did have some unique haircuts. But the way I talked about them, it's disgusting. Me and India hit the baby-having timeline we had set for ourselves. That's funny. I went to the dentist to get my left-side wisdom teeth, and a tooth that got a hole in it, out in February of that year, but other than that, yeah, I'm terrified to go back. It's been almost 20 years now. And my mouth is worse than ever. I need to start playing the lottery, because winning a lot of money i...

Retro: Libbs is a Kickin'

2026 Intro: Sometimes I forget that there was a time that me and India loved each other. Genuine (most of the time) love. There's some of that in this post from the Spring of 2010. It was a great call switching to a midwife practice. I think it helped a lot during the delivery (that's coming up soon, and it's worth a read for sure). As for that last sentence? Fifteen years after I wrote this, I would be proven wrong. One of the few times I've been happy to be proven wrong. Original Post: First and foremost, at exactly 25 weeks, which was this past Friday, I felt our baby kicking for the first time in India's pregnancy.  I've been wanting to feel her kick since India felt her about 2 or 3 weeks ago.  Every time I put my hand on her, India always kept saying 'You feel that?', and I never did. But Friday afternoon, while I was at work with her, she called me into her office and told me to feel.  Then I felt her kick two times.  It was an awesome feeling.  F...

Retro: It's a Girl!!

2026 Intro: A couple thoughts. I don't believe any of the things that I thought about when I heard we were having a girl actually happened. I wasn't an attentive Dad. I would always tell Liberty 'I will later', 'Not right now', etc. when she asked me to play. I'll forever feel bad about the way she always wanted my attention, and I didn't give it to her. I didn't flat out ignore her, but I definitely could have been a better Dad. Next is the due date. I always paid attention to the due date from the time they gave us one. It moved all the time, but after the visit I talk about in this blog, it was the closest to the actual birth date they gave us. July 2nd. India DID go into labor on the 2nd, but Liberty was born about 26 hours later on the 3rd. And yes, we had Liberty's name picked out this early. It EASILY could have been Isabella Sarai, Phoebe Sarai, or even Samara Jean. Wendilynn was on the table at one point (combining my Mother and Aunt...

Retro: First Trimester is Over!!

2026 Intro: First trimester over? At the time of this writing, Liberty is just over five months away from turning 16. She's about to get her license. About to start applying for colleges, going on dates (maybe, I don't know), and just growing up faster than I want her to. Reading something from 16 years ago is mind-blowing. Parents, please, listen when I say this. Time is a fickle b+>#h. You will look at your child one day, no matter if you believe it or not, and say 'Where did my baby go?' Time will take your kids from you. Take the pictures, take the videos, make the memories. Because one day, your kid will be having kids of their own while you're in an empty house wondering where did the time go. Original Post: So today, India's 13 weeks along.  Yay!!!  First trimester is over.  That means, barring any unforeseen actions, we're going to have a baby in approximately 26-27 weeks.  I know that last sentence sounds depressing, but I'm really happy, and...

Retro: First Pregnancy Update

Image
2026 Intro: Pregnancy updates. It's really weird seeing myself write about Liberty as though she wasn't here in person. The fact that we, at this point, didn't know if she was a boy or girl is crazy. We did have some names picked out, though. Surprisingly, one of those ended up being her name. But yeah, seeing what it was like from my perspective this early on is crazy. And I had a lot of pregnancy and baby updates on this blog, so get ready for that. Original Post: So I haven't posted anything yet about the baby, but here goes: According to the last doctor visit, today India should be 12 weeks and 5 days along.  She's just shy of getting past the big hurdle that is the '1st Trimester'.  Yay!!!  Life certainly has been a lot more interesting these past three months. She hasn't really had any cravings, but she has loved her some mustard & vinegar, salt & vinegar, and pickles & eggs at one point or another.  Other than that, she said she hasn...

Retro: U. of Alabama's 1st National Championship in 17 years

2026 Intro: The University of Alabama football team, at the time of the writing you're about to read, hadn't won a National Championship in 17 years. I was eight years old the last time they won it. I have a couple really short memories from that game, but not a whole lot. In that span, they came close a couple times, and had an almost resurgence in 2005. But ultimately, it was Nick Saban coming aboard that changed it all. I'm glad I was blogging at the time, because now I have a first-hand account of what it was like seeing them win it all after 17 long years. Original Post: Why it surprised me that Alabama decided to receive the ball to begin the game, I don't know.  It worked against Florida, so why not Texas, right?  Well, this time, it almost backfired. 1st Quarter Alabama's first drive was abysmal.  After a 5 yard penalty and an 8 yard sack, they went 3 & out.  To make it worse, they turned it over by faking the punt, with P.J. Fitzgerald throwing an i...

Retro: 'Far East' Murfreesboro Review

2026 Intro: The very first blog I posted. Probably around 2009-ish? I only say that because the third or fourth blog I posted was about Alabama winning their first National Championship in 17 years, and that was early 2010. I can't remember if I ever ate there again, but likely not. I don't remember. Original Post: Ok, first off, I have to say, I'm not the easiest person to get to try new things, but when the Wifey REALLY wanted to go too Far East Asian Restaurant for the first time, I reluctantly went with her. I decided to give it a shot, since I'm a lover of Chinese and sometimes Japanese foods. People she knows have apparently been raving about it. I'll preface the review by saying I've lived up here for a little over five years, and every single time that I can remember passing the place, the Wifey always has to comment on how nasty the outside looks, which it does. That's the main reason we've never went. If they can't keep the outside looking ...
